Q&A with...

Vivica Fox

By Susan L. Hornik
The star of Missing shares her secret for getting top-shelf treatment from guys—and the one person she thinks every woman should date.

Currently you star in Lifetime's Missing, are a panelist on WB's reality show The Starlet, and also produce independent films. Is there any time for romance?

Absolutely!

What's the best date you've ever been on?

The best date I've ever had, I will never forget. This guy told me, "I have a surprise for you." We went to this hotel. At first, I got really defensive, like, "What the hell kind of surprise are we going to find in a hotel?" But he took me to the penthouse, where he opened the door to the most beautiful view I'd ever seen. He had a chef cook us dinner; the room was filled with candles and roses. At the end of the night, he rubbed my feet, because I'd been working all day, and I fell asleep. Eventually he woke me up and said, "I need to take you home. I watched you sleep, and you looked like a black Betty Boop. So beautiful to me. I hope you will never forget me." And I never have.

Wow! You should marry that man!

Well, we'll see...we're still good friends. I am taking my time and getting to know guys this time.

You were married once, any advice about getting back into the dating game?

Take your time. Enjoy being by yourself. Date yourself. Everyone always says, "Vivica, who are you dating now?" And I reply, "Well, really, for the past four to five months, I have been dating Vivica. We've been having a lot of fun together, we never argue, and we love to go to the same places." Spend some time by yourself. Don't think that you need to have a boyfriend in order to feel validated as a woman. Validate yourself. Because a man will love and treat you so much better when he knows he can't get over on you. It's taken me forty years to learn that.

Has dating gotten easier with age?

So easy. I have all these young guys. I'm like, "I could be your mother." And they're like, "But you're not!" There's a whole tadpoling thing going on: Younger guys are so attracted to older women right now. Forty is the new thirty. And Oprah is showing us that fifty is the new forty. She looks fabulous.

Have you ever had a bad date?

I decorated a room with flowers for a guy but he didn't appreciate it. But it's OK—somebody else will.

Just like Vivica, contributing entertainment journalist Susan Hornik is on the lookout for younger men.
