Jenny McCarthy

By Susan L. Hornik

The star of UPN's The Bad Girl's Guide explains why you've got to take risks in the name of romance—and the craziest thing she's ever done for love.

Jenny, what's the best relationship advice you've ever heard?

I think if you trust your instincts, you'll have a lot better idea what to do in relationships. If you question what you're feeling, then maybe it isn't right.

In your new UPN comedy, The Bad Girl's Guide, your character J.J. wants to live life to the fullest. How does she do that?

She definitely has the angel and the devil on her shoulder. She knows the consequences but is willing to take risks when looking for love. She ultimately believes she will settle down when she finds Mr. Right, as long as he doesn't cramp her style. But for right now, she doesn't want commitment.

What's the bad girl's idea of a great date?

Someone who pays for everything and doesn't expect anything in return!

In addition to the new TV show, you're a mom and have recently written a book, Baby Laughs: The Naked Truth About the First Year of Mommyhood. How do you and husband make time for romance?

I don't have time! We're always so tired. Mostly it's "Hurry up before our son wakes up." But we try to do a romantic getaway to Vegas every month or so.

What's the best date you've ever been on?

I know I should be saying something about roses and champagne, but it was something so simple. My husband took me out for a milkshake. I remember thinking, what a lovely day it was, right out of a fairy tale.

And your worst date?

Gosh, there has been so many. I punched a few in the face when they were being too aggressive about getting to 3rd base!

What's your favorite makeout music?

Definitely Beyoncé—anything with a good beat.

What's the craziest thing you've ever done for love?

It was when I was in college. I was living in Chicago, and for two years I drove six hours each weekend to see my boyfriend. That was a lot of driving! For some reason, I never asked him to come see me.

Contributing entertainment journalist Susan L. Hornik is going to study Jenny's new show in the hopes of learning some bad-girl dating moves.
